Description
This is my entry for the Eternal Bird competition. I apologize for posting twice today and for the potential redundancy of having already posted a similar photo. Consider this "Morning Glow 2".This bird is a Double-crested Cormorant. Cormorants are not ducks although they have some of the characteristics of Loons and diving ducks. They have webbed feet set far back on their bodies. They don't walk so well but can dive to great depths. They have been reported at depths in excess of 200 feet. Their bills are saw-toothed to help them catch their prey which consists of fish and crustaceans. Unlike ducks, Cormorants and Ahningas have no oils in their feathers so after diving for food, their feathers are soaked with water. This is why they spread their wings. This behavior allows the wing feathers to dry more quickly.
