Description

This is my entry for the Eternal Bird competition. I apologize for posting twice today and for the potential redundancy of having already posted a similar photo. Consider this "Morning Glow 2".

This bird is a Double-crested Cormorant. Cormorants are not ducks although they have some of the characteristics of Loons and diving ducks. They have webbed feet set far back on their bodies. They don't walk so well but can dive to great depths. They have been reported at depths in excess of 200 feet. Their bills are saw-toothed to help them catch their prey which consists of fish and crustaceans. Unlike ducks, Cormorants and Ahningas have no oils in their feathers so after diving for food, their feathers are soaked with water. This is why they spread their wings. This behavior allows the wing feathers to dry more quickly.

"Birdy, birdy in the sky let a po-po in my eye..." ( Copyright by  SandraS ) :) Beautiful shot, Michelle, I like the wings and the contrast that the dark bird makes in front of the light and warm colours of the background

The cormorant looks much better this time - at least for me, the pose works way better -, although I'm not sure if it's the right choice t show the complete reflection. Sure, it is really interesting but as centered as it is this way it would need to be almost completely symmetric that way. And with the background reflecting on another distance, I think this could cause problems.

I like this version better, poop and all. :p I enjoy the colors the most in this composition. They are really pleasing to the eye... great mood and overall quality.
