Description

This unique ice formation was taken on February 24, 2005 at Johnson's Pond in my home town of Coventry, Rhode Island. The water levels at this lake have receeded leaving bazaar natural ice sculptures such as the one pictured here. I used macro photography and shot between the upper and lower ice layers to capture this shot. To me, this formation appears as miniature stalagtites and stalagmites in their different stages of development.

Dr.Do.Little told me on the phone how she got this shot and now I see it
KICK ASS!!!!
10+
she said she had to go into a cave in RI and it was deep into the forest and there was this ICE cave ...very dangerous place to be giant icicles could have come crashing down at any second and killed her flat! if you look really close people you can see ice fairies flying around see them???

its a dirty job to be a Photographer but someone has to do it!

This is totally cool. I can hear the sounds of crystals cracking and water droplets. I can even see my own breath! The picture looks upside down (not a crit, just an observation). I think because the ice is solid on top. There's a silhouette int the far background that looks like a horse's head. Were you trying to capture a shot of him? ;)

Avatar dizzi

 03/03/05 @655

interesting! :)
when i saw these crystallic icecles i imagine sharp-toothed jaws! :)
good and technically perfect photo!

Great concept & a unique shot! The out of focus stags in the front don't work for me though .. these kinds of shots are really hard to do .. perhaps pan more to the right to try & eliminate the front ones ?? Anyway really nice and c-o-l-d!
