Description

I visited Block Island, Rhode Island recently. Block Island is a bustling tourist attraction during the summer months but is peaceful and desolate during the winter. I'll only go there in the off-season. This photo is taken from the west side of the island looking northward to North Light. The land area in the background is mainland Rhode Island. The grasses in the foreground are known as Fragmites. Although beautiful, it is an invasive species. Efforts are underway to control its spread.

love the "bands" of interest, the grass, and the sea.
without the building you had nothing here, but with it the image is well balanced and up to your usual standards.
Forground grass looks like its painted in..

Hi Brian and thank you for your comments. Both of them! HA! I agree that without the lighthouse that the image would be lacking. It's surprising how so small an element can make such a big difference in composition. While I feel that the image is rather simple, I was attracted to the colorful bands of color. I wish the sky was more interesting with some vivid clouds.

I like it! I don't think it's one of your best works, don't get me wrong, it's really nice, I agree with Almost-Human, the foreground almost looks like a painting, but the colors are little too pale for me to give a +10, I wish they were a bit more vibrant, so +9

Pretty nice work. Although it needs more contrast; your highlights are dull. I think the foreground is taking up too much space as well; could go wider or should have more sky to even out the composition.

Having viewed this scene with you a few years ago and having photographed and posted a version at that time I really appreciate how the grasses add to the overall photo. A very nice capture Michelle.

Beautiful lines. The colours look a bit faded but I will put that down to it being uploaded to the web?
